 Life of street dogs

Have you ever venerated street dogs and wandered where do they came from? Or even felt sorry for the life they are living? Or the struggle they have to face daily for their survival? Have you ever imagined yourself at their situation and thought for a while?

Dogs are known to be exceedingly adoptive, intelligent and loyal species. Selflessness, forgiveness, compassion and loyalty are some of the unique qualities of dogs. Dogs have special ability to discern human spirit and nature and it loves you for who you are. Have you ever sensed?  No matter how wrong you have done to a dog it holds no hard feelings and forgive easily. Rather than cruelty, it is only the touch of kindness every dog should ever feel. More often we compare antagonist with dogs but do we know the fact that dogs are never treacherous?

The number of lost, abandoned and homeless dogs including cats in Europe alone is estimated to be 100 million. Similarly, according to the rough survey done by Europe the number of homeless dogs (including cats) worldwide is estimated to be 600 million. Likewise, the streets of Kathmandu valley solely serves as shelter for more than 22,500 stray dogs. Most of them suffer from starvation, maggot, infection and severe illness and die inapt. All of these dogs come in street from our home and labeled as stray dogs. We all are responsible for the growing numbers of street dogs and their sufferings. The main reason behind this is we don’t treat pet as family. Do we? No, we certainly don’t. We don’t even hesitate to abandon them when we don’t need them or when they grow old or suffer from any illness. Sooner or later this inhumane act has to be stopped. People spend remarkable amount of money in puppy mills to buy breed dogs but aren’t ready to adopt the abandoned dogs who are much in need of help.

In context of Nepal, very few animal shelters are established for the rescue purpose. Every now and then we hear about the hit and run cases in the busy roads of Kathmandu valley. The dogs are left brutally injured and such ruthless riders/drivers do not even realize their mistake or even step forward to fulfill their responsibility. Moreover, those merciless drivers are left unpunished just because dogs are unable to protest for their rights. Apart from hit and run cases, we do hear about domestic violence and react to it. Specially, stray dogs are tortured for entertainment purpose by few senseless humans. Why beat or torture these innocent creatures that only ask for food and seek love? But the sad part is that very few of us stand against such inhumanity. Envision yourself having insects, maggot wounds, ticks and fleas savoring your body flesh. Imagine how badly you would suffer. Now it’s high time we need to realize the urge to rescue these little creatures. What are we actually waiting for? Till when are we going to hear about domestic violence, hit and run cases? Can we still say that morality exists within us? If we choose to live a happy and healthy life then why should they suffer? Aren’t the most loyal creature needed to be loved the most? Furthermore, no any living creature is desirable to suffering. We, humans can change the way we live if we want to but these innocent furry creatures are obliged to suffer. Very few of us know how great it feels to know that we have changed the whole world for someone. ADOPT TODAY, MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
